Explain the three key factors that affect the material selection of the magnetic separator

As we all know, the magnetic separator is one of the very important beneficiation equipment for the separation of magnetic materials. It is believed that all users who have a certain understanding of magnetic separators should know that there are many factors that affect the material selection of magnetic separators. And what this article introduces is exactly three of the key factors. 

1. The particle size of the ore is determined by the magnetic field characteristics of the magnetic pulley. If the size of the magnetic pulley is large and the depth of the magnetic field is large, the selected particle size can be larger. But the magnetic pulley is not effective in sorting fine materials, especially for 0.5mm fine powder. The ore has high magnetic rate and good sorting index. The magnetic rate of the ore is low, the amount of waste rock increases, the grade of waste rock rises, and the recovery rate of operations decreases. When the moisture content of the ore is high (more than 3%), the sorting effect is not good, and the amount of waste rock is reduced, which may be due to the increase of the bonding force between the materials when the moisture is high, and the looseness is not good. According to experience, the moisture content of the raw ore should not exceed 2.5%. 

2. The position of the ore dividing plate of the magnetic separator should be made adjustable. The position of the ore dividing plate is also different for different ore properties or different sorting indexes, which need to be determined by experiment. The amount of ore feed and the thickness of the material layer are related to the maximum particle size of the material. The thinner the material layer, the better the sorting effect. When the thickness of the material layer exceeds 2 times the maximum particle size of the material, the sorting index becomes worse. If the trough-type belt conveyor is used to transport the ore, before entering the magnetic pulley, a bar-type mechanism should be set to flatten the material a thin layer for selection. The effect is good. Otherwise, the ore is piled in the middle of the belt, most of the magnetic field of the magnetic pulley cannot be used, and the piled ore blocks interfere with each other, and the sorting effect is not good.

 3. The higher the magnetic field intensity of the magnetic pulley of the magnetic separator, the lower the grade of the discarded waste rock and the higher the recovery rate of the operation. In recent years, with the reduction of mineral resources, raw ore has become precious, and many concentrators have switched to high-field magnetic pulleys to reduce the grade of waste rock. Some concentrators use the magnetic pulley to sweep the waste rock selected by the original magnetic pulley, and the same effect is also obtained. The rotation speed of the magnetic pulley determines the speed of the tape. Therefore, the higher the speed, the greater the centrifugal force on the ore, and the greater the amount of waste rock thrown; while the speed is too low, the throwing angle of the waste rock will be small, and the waste rock yield will decrease.
